[MBCG Family] New comment on monday usage entry no. 1 - impactful.

Gaylene has left a new comment on the post "monday usage entry no. 1 - impactful":

Dave had a patient that was very 'imapactfull' last night. Imapaction removals are never very fun!
I need to get a usage dictionary..I'm sure I could start adding words to it or at least new defintions to old words.

I was going to add irregardless to the list as well. Next can you please address the incorrect use of pronouns in Sacrament meeting? Thank you.

[MBCG Family] New comment on monday usage entry no. 1 - impactful.

MMW has left a new comment on the post "monday usage entry no. 1 - impactful":

I second what Jana said.

In fact, the first time I heard it was the new school year opening devotional. President Bateman gave his opening spiel. Next Sis Bateman got up and started her speech with "Regardless or irregardless of how you feel...."

I rolled my eyes and went back to reading Strunk and White.

Major AMEN to Garner's assessment(brings relief and sanity). I have a few more unmentionables that figure right there with said made-up word. I would share but they truly are unmentionable.

[MBCG Family] New comment on monday usage entry no. 1 - impactful.

Rhodes Trip has left a new comment on the post "monday usage entry no. 1 - impactful":

Is it a question of what the word "impact" is describing when it's being use in a sentence? I can understand that the word "impactful" doesn't clearly express what it is trying to be explained in any given sentence.

Just checking through the online dictionary I was given the definition of "having a great impact or effect" for the word impactful, but again I can see how this word may be less effective in its intended description when used.

Dame uses an iPhone app that gives him new words, meanings, etc. each day, so it's always fun to add new words or understanding to our ever growing vocabulary (better than the 4).

Even more hilarious is when Camryn or Colin use some "bigger" words in a correct sentence, which comes off both shocking and amusing. ;-)

DISCLAIMER: All of the thoughts expressed in this comment were not carefully proofed, so if there is any grammatical errors please do not give up on me as a friend. You can have pity on my shortcomings, but please don't disown me ;-) Oh, and we've got to go have a play date sometime soon!!!

[MBCG Family] New comment on monday usage entry no. 1 - impactful.

Ryan@dontdodumbthings.com has left a new comment on the post "monday usage entry no. 1 - impactful":

Wow. I am so happy to see this. Thank you. I have always truly hated this word. But I had never before considered that I am fully entitled to scorn it. I just am not creative enough to think of scorning a word. But now I will give it all due scorn.

A word that comes from a similar vein is incentivize. I think this has gained broader and longer acceptance than impactful, but I still loathe it. In general, the case may be made that lawyers protect and refine the English language, whereas business-people, as a rule, leave it in horrible smoking ruins. Just my experience. I'll leave it to the lawyer-businessman couple to work that one out.

Looking forward to this series.
